His conclusion: unidentified but most likley natural phenomena. Night of 26 January 2012/morning of 27 Janaury 2012. An interesting "alien-related" dream (with only partial recollection). The first part seemed to be outdoors with people, cars(?) and a general sense of "misdirection." That is, what we thought we were doing/what we thought was going on in fact was something else and being documented as such by "others." The second part seemed to be indoors. At one point I recall two black cats, one somewhat slender and the other somewhat chunky. A number of us were inside something (a building, perhaps?) and weren't sure how to leave. At one point three "others" (two identical "drones" and someone like us) appeared. I was wondering where they came from and if they could enter why couldn't we leave? One person put these thoughts into action! When the two plus one began to leave he followed them and I followed him! The two plus one casually headed to a side door, walked through and we followed. I'm not sure what happened to the third one but the two drones continued to another door and walked through. We didn't follow them, perhaps because of what we saw on a counter (to our right). On top seemed to be numerous "bracelets" with information and/or names on them. I next recall the person I followed sitting, or being forced to sit, on or in front of something. Was that energy (electricity?) coarsing through him? Not a pleasant sight! Finally, was I finally outside (again)? Not sure...

Night of 23 January 2012/morning of 24 Janaury 2012. Another UFO dream (with only partial recollection). I was talking with a very close relative and already knew or he admitted/confided that he had been abducted by aliens. I inquired how things were going (regarding this) and he said, "Better." Finally, last night a serendipitous chat with an acquaintance led to unexpected conversation with a third party regarding UFOs and conspiracy. This third party promised to send information to me regarding these issues and delivered. I will review ASAP...

Prior to his driving back home I commented about the sky. He casually remarked words to the effect, "We have a UFO which inhabits our backyard." Next time I'll ask for clarification.

We've all heard the phrase "think outside the box." Sometimes it's better to "think inside the box." Recently I had to account for, say, six boxes. But I could only locate five. I checked with someone who looked at them and a photograph of them and only saw five boxes. Was one missing? No. Upon closer examination it turned out that one (larger) box in fact contained two smaller boxes. That opened my eyes, so to speak. Very often it's all about perception. Night of 9 January 2012/morning of 10 Janaury 2012. Had a couple of UFO-related dreams. The first is a brief recollection of what seemed to be a blackboard with CEIII written upon it (apparently in chalk). CEIII is an abbrevation of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The second dream was more in-depth although I only recall seeing a (paper?) listing/posting of the 1959 Papua New Guinea case. It seemed that the time of the sighting was 4:56PM.

Two UFO cases

Last night I was chatting with some folks. The conversation sequed to "crazy" things like (believing in) flying saucers. One individual (person A) whom I've known for years surprised me completely when he said that about four years ago he sighted something unconventional. He and two friends were hiking in or near Harriman State Park (I thought he said New Jersey but did he mean New York?). With his colleagues elsewhere he saw lights that were quite close and added that if you extended your arms and made fists that would approximate its size. It was after dark; there was no ambient light. It was completely silent and he was emphatic that it wasn't a blimp. Yesterday night one of his two colleagues (person B) confirmed that A told him of that sighting that same night years ago. To the best of my recollection A told me that he was quite unnerved by the experience. Person B then told me of another case. Several years ago he drove to New Jersey to talk personally with one Joe Cisco who was at the center of the Wanaque New Jersey UFO sighting of 11 January 1966. Person B said that Mr Cisco told him that what he saw was not from here. It's quite interesting that it's almost 45 years to the day that this occurred. Person A never reported his sighting. My Silent War

Today I started reading My Silent War, a book written by Kim Philby in 1967. A spy for the USSR, he betrayed Great Britain, The USA and the cause of human freedom. I shall now segue to a Stanton Friedman lecture I attended in 2007. Stan was talking about Dr Donald Menzel, allegedly a member of Majestic 12. Did he "belong" in that group? After obtaining permission from three persons in writing Stan researched Dr Menzel's papers in Harvard University's archives and made a remarkable discovery: Donald Menzel lead a double life (one as a university astronomer and another working clandestinely for government and industry). To demonstrate to the audience that individuals could lead double lives without suspicion Stan referenced (Guy) Burgess, Philby and (Donald) Maclean. Touche! Philby was born just over 100 years ago: 1 January 1912 and died 11 May 1988. Menzel was born 11 April 1901 and died 14 December 1976. Former co-workers once said that I was a political mole.

Change is inevitable. Nothing new. Case #1: just recently I was driving and noticed that a Mavis Discount Tire replaced a Munro Muffler/Brake & Service. Nothing Earth shattering but when did that happen? I pass by that building almost daily and never noticed. Case #2: intermittently I attend a meeting held monthly at a local VFW hall. Earlier this week I pulled into a surprisingly empty parking lot only to discover that the VFW building suffererd severe internal fire damage. More Earth shattering but when did that happen? (It turns out the fire occurred late December 2011.) Case #3: Yesterday a long-time acquaintance told me his Mom was extremely ill and that her death was imminent. Actually, I've known of her declining health for some time. She died today. These sort of things happen every day to us, people we know and/or people we don't know. Let's prepare for whatever 2012 (and beyond?) has in store.

Night of 27 December 2011/morning of 28 December 2011. Had an interesting dream re: UFOs. After checking out an apparently urban, industrial, small storefront "warehouse" in which older (text) books were (sold?) I found myself with a couple of former co-workers. We entered a sports arena on an upper level. An older male usher was in the process of stopping us from entering but upon seeing our apparel identifying us as museum personnel we were permitted (even welcomed) in. The older man entered first, followed by a younger woman and then me. We seemed to be on the top most level. The older man sat down first, nearest the back wall. The woman then sat down in front of him. Other people were around (this and other "tables"). So as to not block anyone's view I sat in front. We seemed to be at a circus. The performers wore costumes and seemed to include at least one human and one non-human/apparent alien. The human "discarded/dispatched" the alien with extreme vigor. One older woman near us verbally expressed her dismay by what transpired. An older man whom I took to be her husband verbally expressed his pleasure by what transpired. Afterwards those in the audience were shown extremely detailed and colorful mosaics showing quantitatively and qualitatively where the alien was sent.

The last few days at work a couple of colleagues and I have discussed, among other things, animal/cattle mutilations, chem/contrails and crop circles. Conversations in which two parties essentially disagree compel the intellectually honest individual to re-assess and re-evaluate his/her position. Being sure of the facts, expressing yourself clearly and defending your case effectively is not easy. One person, in a moment of humor and levity, suggested that crop circles are created/formed via board and string... by aliens! However, on a more serious note he shared a sighting he and two friends had approximately ten to fifteen years ago. It was summer time and evening. They saw a light moving horizontally and vertically in an odd manner. They did not believe it was a helicopter or airplane. They could never identify it not did they ever report their sighting. I told him about Peter Davenport's National UFO Reporting Center and MUFON. It's well established that most anomalous sightings are not reported.

Earlier today I struck up a conversation with a woman who had just purchased the DVD J Edgar, a 2011 movie about J Edgar Hoover which caught my eye a few minutes earlier. I mentioned that he was also portrayed in the series Dark Skies in the 1990s. She seemed to have a keen interest in history and found the series premise quite intriguing. Before today I'd never seen or spoken with her. Should our paths cross again I'll ask her about J Edgar... and Dark Skies.

Backdoors

I recently heard that some smartphones with preloaded applications (built on top of existing architecture) may create "backdoors" enabling hackers to bypass security features making them (i.e. the smartphones) vulnerable to attack. After learning about this I wondered if our planet, solar system, galaxy and/or universe (based on structure and composition) could conceivably be vulnerable in an analogous way. Some abductees/experiencers report contact with less-than-friendly entities. Whether or not they (i.e. these "hackers") are diabolical, hostile or even demonic is unknown. But if such nefarious creatures exist and are interacting with humans in our space time then it's possible that cosmic firewalls (given that they exist) have been breached. If that's the case then "all bets are off."

100,000 miles

When a car's odometer reads 100,000 miles it's a milestone for sure. The speed of light (in a vacuum) is 186,282.397 miles per second! Whether aliens are extraterrestrials or interdimensionals we can be sure they don't travel by internal combustion, jet or rocketry. These just don't cut it when traversing the uni/multiverse. Once again it comes down to technology, perspective, proportion and... humility!

Coffins, orphans and fate

Why are we here? What is to become of us? What is humanity's fate? We find ourselves (individually and collectively) on this mortal coil apparently by accident. So many of us see but do not perceive. Totally self-absorbed, self-centered and selfish. They're on the scene now and nothing else matters, not the past or future. Only themselves in the moment. So childish. So foolish. But not surprising in the least. Earth is home to over 7 billion people, many with frail bodies, minds and souls. Empty shells with no real purpose and an uncertain destiny. Does anyone/anything "out there" care? Are your sure? Will anyone/anything "out there" adopt us, help us, protect us? Are you sure? In the fullness of time our questions will be answered and many of us will not like what they hear.

Kennel Club holiday meeting

As many of you know in addition to being a member of MUFON I'm also a member of a local all-breed Kennel Club. Last night was our annual holiday meeting, dinner and auction. My gift to someone else was a pair of binoculars which was greatly appreciated by the woman receiving it. The gift I received was The Pawprints of History/Dogs and the Course of Human Events, a book by Stanley Coren. Very nice, indeed. Now for the segue to UFO matters. You may recall that binoculars and their dog Delsey factored into Betty and Barney Hill's September 1961 abduction. Last, today marks the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. History matters!

Saucerer

I just finished reading a personal letter (written years ago) re: UFOs. The writer described himself as a "saucerer" which, of course, is a play on "sorcerer." I've never come across that term before. I think it's pretty cool. Also history oriented: earlier this afternoon on AM radio the host was reading off the list of former Sports Illustrated Sportsmen/women of the Year honorees. To my surprise some names familiar to me were completely unknown to a couple of show/studio workers (apparently in their mid twenties/thirities). And they're in the business! Whether it's UFOs or sports, history is often an unknown quantity when it comes to many (younger) people.

Today I checked out a local flea market. One vendor (JP) was selling, among other items, conspiracy-related books, including Jim Marrs' Above Top Secret and Richard Belzer's UFOs, JFK, and Elvis (which he will sell after he reads it). We struck up an extensive conversation regarding UFOs. Although JP was very interested in the topic he was unfamiliar with General Nathan Twining, Stanton Friedman, Richard Dolan and Majestic 12. He said that he took a course for credit (with "science" in the name) at a local community college in 1981 (or so). The instructor brought in excellent guest speakers. Another vendor was selling all kinds of things including various books. One caught my eye: The Space Program Quiz and Fact Book (1985) by Timothy B Benford and Brian Wilkes. Although dated in some respects it's an interesting compendium and actually discusses UFOs on page 15. The last entry about the possible significance of UFOs on society remains staggering in its implications.

This morning about 2AM I awoke and thought about tuning in to Coast to Coast AM but did not. About an hour later I awoke again and this time listened till about 4AM. The woman guest was talking with George Noory about ghosts. I went back to sleep and recall a "baseball memorabilia" dream sequence. Just before (what I thought was) 7:30AM I looked out the bedroom window to check out the morning sky. I got up and went into the bathroom. I glanced at a clock there and it read 8:15AM. I thought that was a little odd but knew that when that clock's battery loses power the clock slows down. I checked a second and third clock. They all read 8:15AM. I looked out the window and the morning sky looked different (less sun, more clouds) from what I saw seemingly a few moments previously. This appears to be the first time that I recall having an experience that could be possibly be described/interpreted (even remotely) as missing time, a timeshift or timeslip.

Courage and convictions

As alluded to previously (e.g. 30 October 2011 blog) I have a long-term interest in UFOs and baseball... and sports in general. Today on an AM radio sports talk show I listened to the breaking scandal involving the Penn State University football team, administrators, a former coach and possibly its iconic head coach Joe Paterno (Joe Pa). How could this be? How could Bernard Madoff's investment scheme go on so long? Madoff's reputation was steller, beyond reproach. But eventually he fell. Joe Pa's legacy is now uncertain and at the very least (extremely) tarnished. From time to time we see the mighty fall but this should come as no surprise. In the end icons are only human, mortal and flawed (men or women). When push comes to shove only a few of us take a moral stand and have the courage of our convictions; many of us do not. The UFO field is no different. Where do you stand, with the many or the few?

Yesterday (morning and afternoon) and early this afternoon I took time from my schedule to volunteer for what I consider to be a worthy cause (which had nothing to do with UFOs). Others did so as well. As is often the case volunteers are an invaluable resource. In this age of distress (financial and otherwise) it's very satisfying to "give back" even if it's in a relatively small way. In terms of ("solving") the UFO conundrum our collective (volunteer) effort is not only desirable, it's essential. P.S. yesterday was the anniversary of Travis Walton's abduction 5 November 1975.

The 2011 World Series is in the books and in addition to my decades-long interest in UFOs is my decades-long interest in baseball. That includes (major and minor league) professional baseball as well as (collegiate and olympic) amateur baseball. Several years ago while on vacation in Nevada USA I took in a Pacific Coast League game at Cashman Field, home of the Las Vegas 51s (the AAA/highest minor league farm team of MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers). Beautiful park and scenary. The 51s have a couple of logos including an "anatomically correct" gray alien (head) which is found on signage, team hats, souvenir bats & balls, etc.! However, the team's three-dimensional mascot Cosmo is a fictitious, cartoonish creation. This should come as no surprise. A two-dimensional gray alien head logo is acceptable and cool. A three-dimensional gray alien mascot mingling with fans/kids is apparently not acceptable and cool. Last Monday in an office-like setting I was speaking with a man who heard that I had been in Philadelphia that past weekend (attending a wedding). I corrected him; I attended a conference. About what, he asked. I matter of factly said unidentified flying objects, UFOs. He didn't flinch, which was a good sign. I went on to discuss, in general terms, the Phoenix Lights and Dr Lynne Kitei. This Monday in the same office-like setting I was speaking with a woman. Once again the conversation included the ice breaker, "So what did you do this weekend?" In general terms I spoke of attending a film premiere, a talk, etc. The conversation moved forward to a discussion of (her and her family) going to zoos and aquariums. I mentioned a movie I saw (I said something like "Zoo Story" but meant to say Zookeeper). Without spoiling the plot I said that the animals spoke (English) and were providing dating/mating advice to Kevin James, star of the movie. Next stop Planet of the Apes (the 1968 original movie). She said she hadn't seen it and asked what it was about. I told her. To my surprise she independently sequed into her belief that there must be (intelligent) life "out there." With that opening I told her more specifically about the UFO events I attended. She asked why would the (USA) government want to keep this a secret. Four basic reasons: nations do not want their citizens to have a global allegiance; disclosure (partial or otherwise) means telling your friends and enemies; energy/technology issues (as in oil and big money) and last, possible religious upheaval. I didn't venture into issues of our likely not knowing who the aliens are, where they're from, their motives and ultimate intentions, etc. I'm more confident these days discussing this topic openly. To me she had an intellectually honest approach to the subject. I told her that she has an open mind. If only more people were like her.

FIONS weekend recap

Yesterday's FIONS UFO conference is now over. I was there and believe that the 200 to 300 attendees would agree that it was a success in all repects. Linda Moulton Howe's talk re: "ETs, Time Travelers and Self-Activating Machines" was as captivating as the first time I heard it (at the MUFON PA conference last weekend). Whitley Strieber spoke with great authority and passion. He praised Dr Paul Hill's Unconventional Flying Objects: A Scientific Analysis as must reading. I admit that I, along with almost everyone in the audience, have not read it. Rich Dolan spoke last and his tour de force presentation was comprehensive, provocative and ultimately extremely enlightening. Today I went to a FIONS brunch with a smaller group of people. Anne Strieber's talk was most engaging. I commend FIONS in general, and Alan Steinfeld in particular, for a job well done. It was a weekend to remember!

Last evening FIONS held a media press conference/premiere screening for James Carman's film "The Hidden Hand." I was there and would say approximately 300 to 400 persons attended. Linda Moulton Howe and Rich Dolan each spoke at some length before fielding questions from the media. The film's fresh approach makes it a powerful and worthy documentary. Highly recommended. Commentators include Robert Dean, Rich Dolan, Budd Hopkins, Linda Moulton Howe, Dr Roger Leir, Whitley Strieber as well as numerous contactees/abductees/experiencers. Afterwards Mr Carman requested that persons appearing in the film head to the stage where they fielded questions from the audience (Peter Robbins included). Today is the UFO conference portion featuring presentations from Whitley Strieber, Linda Moulton Howe and Rich Dolan. Tomorrow is a fundraising brunch featuring today's speakers and Anne Strieber.

After writing yesterday's blog (18 October 2011) I went online to read more about Linda Moulton Howe. According to Wikipedia she won the 1963 Miss Idaho crown and participated in the 1963 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City New Jersey. I had no idea! I then recalled that actress Dawn Wells was previously Miss Nevada and participated in the Miss America Pageant. Could it have been the same year? I checked her entry in Wikipedia and NNDB.com: she was Miss Nevada in 1959 and participated in the 1960 Miss America Pageant. Interesting in and of itself. To my surprise I learned that yesterday was Dawn Wells' birthday (born 18 October 1938)! I also recall that she appeared on the 1960s television show The Invaders starring Roy Thinnes. According to the IMDB website the episode was Dark Outpost which first aired 24 October 1967. Coincidence or synchronicity? I recall what Dr Lynne Kitei said at the MUFON PA Conference on Sunday: There are no coincidences...

The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Pennsylvania (PA) East Coast Conference was held this past weekend in Philadelphia and I was there. Although each speaker was well received IMHO Linda Moulton Howe and Dr Lynne Kitei's presentations stood out. Linda's talk on Saturday regarding "ETs, Time Travelers and Self-Activating Machines" was a force of nature and featured amazing photographs of "dragon fly drones," an aspect previously unknown to me. Lynne's talk on Sunday regarding "The Phoenix Lights" was fascinating from the start and featured personal revelations which touched the hearts of those in attendance. Saturday's night's dinner was relaxed and joyful. My friends and I sat at Dr Kitei's table. Earlier that day we met for the first time in the vendor room. She was abundantly gracious and made me feel at ease from the start. A question and answer period followed dinner and Bill Birnes deserves special praise and recognition for his knowledge and passion. I introduced myself to Chris Augustin after his talk on Sunday. In sum, everyone associated with the conference, from speakers to MUFON PA members to attendees, was extremely approachable, cordial and grounded. Budd Hopkins Memorial

Yesterday afternoon I attended a Budd Hopkins Memorial celebrating his personal life, his life in art as well as his pioneering UFO abduction research. The verbal and visual tributes, as well as musical interludes, were at times solemn but ultimately uplifting and life-affirming. As I scanned the audience I recognized many persons who attended Intruders Foundation (IF) seminars on a regular basis. It was comforting to see them once again. After the memorial concluded a casual and informal reception afforded attendees an opportunity to mingle. I touched base with several individuals who worked closely with Budd at IF. Although I did not speak with Donald Schmitt I did converse with Dr David M Jacobs, Linda Cortile Napolitano and Peter Robbins, among others. As it begins a period of transition it's clear that IF faces new challenges now that Budd is gone. It will no doubt need to reinvent/reconfigure itself to some extent. IF is in good hands. I am confident that going forward everything that can be done will be done to ensure IF's continued success and viablity. Haunted firehouse

Of course Halloween is coming and many are already getting into the spirit (no pun intended!) of the holiday. One local firehouse has adorned its interior and exterior in this fashion. As I drove past I noticed some (gray) aliens on the upper level behind some windows. Very interesting. Almost makes me want to check out the haunted firehouse more closely and see what other surprises await. It amazes me how youngsters are repeatedly exposed to images (cartoonish and otherwise) of aliens. Many believe aliens have deceived us and when we think they're doing "A, B or C" they're actually doing "X, Y or Z."

I recently watched the famous battle scene in the 1953 movie The War of the Worlds. Extraordinary. Of course, in the end the Martians were defeated not by human technology but by Earth's airborne bacteria. Bad for them and good for us. One wonders why they didn't do their homework regarding their ability to adapt to Earth's environment. When one studies abductions (e.g Betty and Barney Hill) it's apparent that real aliens adapt to our realm quite well. They seem comfortable breathing our air and moving about in our gravity. They seem unaffected by disease transmission (to or from them). Unlike the Martian invaders above real aliens are completely prepared and have thoroughly done their homework.

I've written about Budd many times. Bob Girard passed away 12 August 2011 and was the driving force behind Arcturus Books Inc. For years I received his mail order catalogs with great anticipation. In and of themselves they were a great read, especially his book reviews. I placed numerous orders, many/most of which were by telephone with Bob himself. The man was a firebrand and force of nature. From my perspective he was brash, extremely opinionated and, yes, dramatic. Thank you for being "real" and for your contributions regarding UFOs, the metaphysical and paranormal. This morning prior to arising I thought of Betty and Barney Hill and what it must have been like to arrive home after their ordeal which began the night before. Surely they sensed that something was amiss followed by tantalizing clues to that effect. Their descriptions of the aliens would (at times) be attributed to John Hoyt's portrayal of the Bifrost alien on The Outer Limits episode The Bellero Shield (which first aired 10 February 1964). I'm a huge fan of the original The Outer Limits and IMHO few, if any, episodes remotely approach the Hill case in terms of depth, texture, nuance, alarm and yes, imagination. It's been said and written that truth is stranger than fiction. Betty and Barney's UFO experience demonstrates this abundantly. Their experience is pursuasive. Their experience is compelling. But unfortunately by itself their experience is not conclusive. However, collective human experience since supports their assertions. The Hill abduction was not the first and certainly not the last. Alien abductions continue on a global scale and show no sign of abating. Thank you Betty and Barney for maintaining your dignity and humanity. We all should be as strong and courageous as you were.

One of the seminal events in UFO history, many familiar with the case are far more comfortable believing that their story was merely a "shared fantasy" as opposed to an actual dual abduction by intelligent non-human entities. Thirty years ago today my father passed away. It was a Thursday. That afternoon my mother called me at work with these chilling words, "Daddy died. Come home." When I arrived I saw my aunt (my father's only sibling, his younger sister) sitting in our kitchen. Both of their parents (my paternal grandparents) were alive and saw their oldest child and only son die before they did. Later my mother, my siblings and I sat in our living room pondering a future without him. To this day I wish that we had been closer and talked more. As it must life went on. Thirty years later I try to honor him as best I can. I wonder what he would think of the person I've become. When I think of him it's always best to remember that although he was a flawed man with many imperfections he had many fine qualities as well. Thanks for being my dad, the only one I'll ever have. A matter of opinion

A few moments ago I spoke with someone who is of the opinion that most (90 to 95% of) internet conspiracy (and UFO) websites are somehow run by (or are proxies of) The Government. How so, I asked. Well, server costs are high. Graphics are complex and day to day maintenance/updating of sites is time consuming. I showed him two sites: www.coasttocoastam.com (with George Noory) and www.unknowncountry.com (Whitley Strieber's site). I challenged this person: is Noory working for/on behalf of The Government? Answer: perhaps not but he's (likely) being duped. I'm not convinced by this argument and point of view. Are you?

Night of 6 September 2011/morning of 7 September 2011. Had an interesting dream re: UFOs. I was outside and surely there were other people around. Seemed to be twilight or evening. I'm virtually certain I had a camera with me. Then "they" arrived. First one, then another. Multi-colored aerial vehicles of different shapes. Definitely not ours. I know I tried to photograph them and am not sure with any great success. As far as I recall there was some fear but no panic. Just a sense that "they' put on this demonstration for us, on their terms.

Some may remember the 1983 movie Strange Invaders starring Paul Le Mat and Nancy Allen. Last night/this morning I had my own strange invaders dream. A close relative and I were driving in New Jersey. There was a turnoff leading to a town or village where I seemed to "vacation" previously. We turned off, parked and walked into town. Once there I briefly saw and spoke with a former co-worker. A fourth person familar to me was there briefly as well. Other than the four of us there didn't seem to be any other "visitors." Posted on a wall was a New York Times front page with a large UFO photo. Later I saw at least two groups of people (adults and children) which I ascertained were aliens masquerading as humans. The dream concluded with my relative and I trying to leave. By this time it was night and the town barely lit. As I recall we never reached our car...

Yesterday afternoon I went to the gym of which I've been a member for many years. At one point I was near two relatively young men I ddn't recognize. They were discussing the economy and their personal situations. They talked about the debt ceiling, that if "the rich" were taxed more the deficit would be cut in half and which agencies/departments/programs could/should be cut. Man "B" agreed with man "A" until "A" brought up the military. "A" advocated cutting it and "B" disagreed saying that we would need the military when ET comes. Whack! I jumped into the conversation and said that some believe that ET's presence (on Earth) predated the emergence of Homo Sapiens. Man "B" discussed several issues including ancient astronauts, advanced astonomical knowledge by "primitive" cultures, the contruction of the (Egyptian) Pyramids and that he found these topics interesting. By this time I was a passive listener. I remain curious as to "B's" opinions re: ET's motives and capabilities.

Last night on The John Bachelor Show a discussion ensued regarding how to reduce the unemployment rate. A guest matter-of-factly said “alien abductions.” This response caught me, the host and surely others by surprise. The logic goes as follows: people who disappear do not look for jobs. Unemployed people who do not look for work are not reflected in the unemployment rate. Get it? Just a flip remark made with one’s tongue firmly planted in one’s cheek. Early this morning I dreamt of a well-known male celebrity sitting in what seemed to be a dugout-like area. He was well dressed although I noticed a loose thread on his right arm near his elbow. It seemed he was doing a commercial (for a cell phone company). We chatted and at one point I began to initiate a handshake. He evaded my attempt but the tips of my fingers grazed the top of his hand. He said, “I don’t do the DNA thing.” I said/thought, “You just did.” Imagine an abduction event and just change the cast of characters.

Last night/early this morning I dreamt of one Hoyt Bush (surely a composite of Hoyt Vandenberg and Vannevar Bush, both allegedly members of Majestic 12). Hello from Borrego Springs/Julian/Alpine California! This morning we visited the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Borrego Springs. Beautiful vistas and wildlife. Very peaceful; very tranquil. Our next stop was the very western town Julian where we had brunch before I checked out the charming Julian Book House (where I bought a UFO novel previously unknown to me). Then onto Alpine where we spent time at the Viejas Casino and outlet center. We enjoyed a fine dinner experience at the Alpine Inn. We'll spend the night here in Alpine and drive to San Diego tomorrow morning.

Night of 4 July 2011/morning of 5 July 2011. Had an interesting dream re: UFOs. I seemed to be at shore/ocean front boardwalk with other people. The sky was fairly cloudy. Above (the water) was a UFO with a rectangular back (with rounded corners) and a triangular front. Underneath were approximately six to ten circular "protrusions." It seemed that the UFO was intentionally presenting itself for our benefit, study and observation. I recall commenting to a man that after the final STS shuttle mission NASA would have no capability to launch an American into space.

First some facts: on 2 June 1925 Lou Gehrig replaced Wally Pipp at first base for the New York Yankees. On 2 June 1941 (seventy years ago today) Lou passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Yes I know it's a day early but I won't have access to a computer tomorrow. Which brings us to the huge, cigar-shaped so called UFO motherships reported over The Yukon Territory/Canada and Alaska (among other places). How big? Years ago in school we learned that we use the Base 10 decimal numbering system. Why? Because humans have ten fingers, ten toes. Then we learned about other Base decimal numbering systems. Like working with Roman numerals it was definitely different and (for me at least) not easy to learn (expecially multiplication and division). Potholes 101

Earlier today on my way to work I drove over an unseen pothole (a large and established one more like a crater) which resulted in the destruction of my front, right tire. It will be replaced tomorrow. The disruption and cost to me (aggravation, frustration, time and money) will be dealt with and managed. So many road hazards! Local authorities (county, town, village) are responsible for safe roads. If they don't have the (financial/human) resources to repair/fill in these road hazards in a timely manner I'm not confident that national/global authorities are capbale of dealing with and managing the alien presence effectively.

I've been a fan of The Amazing Kreskin for years and recall his board game and its facinating swinging pendulum. My sister once brought home a guy (I don't think he ever reached boyfriend status) while I watched Kreskin on television. At one point he voiced words to the effect, "You don't believe this, do you?" I don't recall my response but this guy's query bothered me. I recall one segment in which Kreskin "hypnotized" a few people who, upon his comment that "It's (i.e. the flying saucer/UFO was) landing," panicked and ran away. Very powerful stuff, especially to a relatively young and somewhat still impressionable person. Regardless of the theatrics, I grew to appreciate the wonder of our world, its mysteries and a question which remains timeless: what will happen next?

She's a very educated and intelligent woman and we had a fine intellectual discussion. After yesterday I felt the need to clarify things and did so today. Death from the Skies!

The above refers to the book Death from the Skies! The Ways the World Will End... by Philip Plait PhD (Penguin Books 2009). From what I've read so far it's an absolutely engrossing read. Interesting to the max. However, what he writes on page 187 bothers me (and I quote): "I discount UFO sightings. Despite a zillion blurry photos, obvious fakes, and shaky video, there has not been a single unequivocal piece of evidence that we have been visited by aliens, ever. Deal with it." Wow, case closed! No argument from me that countless blurry photos, fakes and shaky videos exist. However, the latter part of his claim is problematic and leads me to conclude, IMHO, that his is biased. There is an overwhelming amount of good, solid, publically available data/evidence which demonstrate that something unknown and vitally important is going on. Like many other "authorities" Dr Plait appears to be unfamiliar with this evidence. We also know that much data/evidence is not publically available. Most likely Dr Plait is unfamiliar with that fact, as well. Keeping an open mind and being as fully informed as possible is key is when dealing with UFOs. For many people, including those holding PHDs, this topic is far too contentious to deal with on an intellectually honest basis.

From time to time I come across and browse periodicials not normally on my reading list. A couple of issues of The Weekly Standard caught my attention. The 15 March 2010 issue had a nice article on pages 36 - 37: Tomorrowland The chronicle of popular science fiction/fact. Author Eli Lehrer has written a very interesting and nostalgic article about Analog Magazine: Science Fiction, Science Fact. I recall reading this years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it's still being published and quite successful. The 10 May 2010 issue had an interesting cartoon (by Ramirez) on page 3 portraying a male news anchor/reporter who says (in all CAPS): "NASA revealed compelling evidence there may be life on Mars in the form of pond scum." This is immediately followed by: "In related news, recent polls show that Congress has a lower approval rating than Martian pond scum." Most excellent! Kudos and full marks to Ramirez!

Earlier today a co-worker (one I don't usually work with directly) and I were discussing Harry F Guggenheim's financing of Robert H Goddard's rocket experiments (in Roswell New Mexico). The conversation segued to another reason Roswell is well known. He told a story he knew about the military's involvement in a crash retrieval of some sort. I told him this sounded like the Kecksburg Pennsylvania incident of December 1965. It's always gratifying to have an intelligent conversation with someone who seems to have an open mind regarding this important subject. Last night I had what I consider to be an interesting dream. As I recall I was in a car in what seemed to be a large outdoor parkng lot or area. Upon arrival each car was expected to stop at a registration booth or check point. Afterwards the driver could select any open or available space in which to park his vehicle. I seemed to arrive "early" and only a few cars were parked along with mine. At one point I decided to move my car to a different spot which would seemingly allow easier egress from the lot. As I began to turn my vehicle around I saw that another car was about to take the parking spot I now wanted. I was absolutely certain that this car entered the lot without stopping at the registration booth/check point. Quite frustrating! Around this time I saw a relatively young woman running and believed she was going to this other vehicle but this was not the case. The other car did in fact park in the spot I wanted. An older man with white hair (and apparently white facial hair) left the car. He was the driver and wore what seemed to be blue denim overalls. Two or three other people also exited the vehicle. I thought about approaching them and voicing my thoughts about what just happened. In order to avoid confrontation I decided not to speak with or challenge them. I then noticed the license plate (white background with blue letters) on the rear of their car: FATE.

Male or female?

Yesterday I and some coworkers had lunch in a diner where we periodically go when we're on the road. At one point my supervisior saw a young woman with crutches go into the men's room. This seemed to perplex him. He went on to suggest that perhaps she was an alien (or words to this effect). I've never told him about this website but he knows of my interest in aliens/flying saucers/UFOs. Every so often he makes glib remarks regarding these topics (as in the giggle factor/the laughter curtain). I matter-of-factly responded that whether an alien was male or female depended on the alien. There seems to be evidence that while some aliens lack sex organs there are reports from experiencers who "sensed" that the entity in their presence was male or female. One neat thing about working where I do is that every so often we have "education and instruction" (aka "show and tell"). I'm tentatively planning one in which I show photos of some alleged MJ-12 members, other governmental officials and select UFO documents. This is a work in progess and I have to take care when presenting/sharing this information with others.

Something in the Sky

Periodically a local public library discards many of its older magazines and offers them free to its patrons. As I scanned those on a table one attracted my attention. It was Popular Mechanics (March 2009) with an eye-catching front cover story: PM Investigates: UFO Myths. Inside was a full-length story: Something in the Sky by Phil Patton. Its tone was decidedly cynical/skeptical and it debunked many UFO sightings. Articles like this compel those on our side of the UFO camp to take a hard look at the evidence. According to the author any number of sightings can be attributed to various kinds of military flares (e.g. the February 1942 Battle of Los Angeles; the March 1997 Phoenix AZ lights) and military aircraft (e.g. the January 2008 Stephenville TX sightings). Other reasons included the usual suspects: psychological rammifications, perceptual issues, cultural influences, hoaxes, radar being "fooled," natural nightlights and camera effects. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) is presented in a somewhat negative light while the Condon Report and Project Blue Book in a more authoritative light. No surprise here. What is important is to be as knowledgable, intellectually honest and objective as possible. Mr. Patton's article is an interesting and organized analysis of this phenomenon. However, it is biased and falls far short of being comprehensive. As Stanton Friedman has said, "Some UFOs are alien spacecraft. I'm interested in the saucers, not the UFOs."

Time travel or GIGO?

I recently had a "time travel" incident or, more accurately, my camera did. I took a number of photographs on 23-24-25 December 2010. But when I looked more closely I noticed the camera's date stamp was 2009, not 2010. I've had this camera for several years now and have never seen this before. Apparently I inadvertently changed the year on the date stamp when I only intended to change the time stamp. Time travel? No. Garbage In Garbage Out? Yes.

Cash-Landrum Incident

Rendlesham Forest Incident

This extremely important case took place over several nights (including 28 December 1980) in Suffolk England near the twin NATO air bases RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge (which were leased to the USAF at the time). Lt Col Charles Halt (deputy base commander at RAF Bentwaters) made an extraordinary audio recording describing of some of the anomolous occurrences. Colonel Halt (Ret) discussed these events at a Budd Hopkins' Intruders Foundation (IF) seminar on 5 December 2009. I attended this fascinating presentation in which Colonel Halt brought the actual tape recorder used that night. Very cool!

Dark Skies

A couple of days ago I finished watching the 1996-1997 television series Dark Skies (please see 31 October 2010 blog). Essentially I recall four specifics from the show (warning: spoiler alert!): Harry Truman at Roswell NM and the 1947 shoot down of an alien craft; a boy growing inside a cow; a RFK/JFK (assassination) angle; the female star crossing over to the dark (i.e. alien) side. Most other plots and scenes I just did not recall. It was great seeing these episodes after all these years! Highly entertaining and provocative, it's too bad the series lasted only twenty episodes.

Many years ago I was a graduate student in the state of Indiana USA (please see 11 December 2010 blog). After listening to an amazing radio show I wrote for a cassette tape regarding retrieved crashed flying saucers and recovered aliens. Later I purchased UFO Crash/Retrievals: Amassing the Evidence, Status Report III directly from Leonard Stringfield. It was off the charts! As I recall there was a reference to a supressed flying saucer/UFO article in Coronet and/or Pageant magazine. I checked the stacks of the university library but could not verify this. I wrote to him regarding my findings and we began to correspond via the US mail. Over time I purchased more of Mr Stringfield's works which he kindly inscribed/signed. In one he wrote that I was his "research friend." That was absolutely wonderful on his part! I've never forgotten him and feel honored to have known him the way I did. He was true UFO research pioneer and a real gentleman. Leonard passed away in 1994.

Out of the blue

Yesterday was a very cold day. At work a "co-worker" made an off-the-cuff remark. Essentially he said how it would be nice to go from where he was (point A) to where he wanted to go (point B) instantly (in order to avoid the very cold temperature outside). He then made an analogy by referencing aliens. He suggested that when they go places they travel quickly/almost instantly. We spoke for awhile in general terms about this subject. Just goes to show that when you least expect it someone surprises you by revealing their private opinions and thoughts regarding aliens. Cool!

Apollo 17

On 14 December 1972 astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt completed their Apollo 17 mission. Cernan is the last person from Earth to walk on the Moon. Science Versus Pseudoscience

When I came across an intersting little book Science Versus Pseudoscience (by Nathan Aaseng, published by Franklin Watts, 1994) I immediately looked for information regarding UFOs. On page eight he describes astrology, ESP, UFOs and miracle medical cures as falling under the domain of pseudoscience. He begins his brief discussion of UFOs by referencing Kenneth Arnold's 24 June 1947 sighting. Aaseng immediately shows his ignorance and lack of knowledge/research regarding UFOs. He writes that the private pilot, "...reported seeing a strange flying object..." and was the first person to use the term "flying saucer." Wrong on two counts. And this in his first paragraph on UFOs! Arnold stated that he saw nine objects. A newspaper (reporter) coined the term "flying saucers." Although this last reference has a source note it is clear from the very start that Aaseng has not done his homework. An interesting aside are the three UFO photographs presented. One shows an admitted hoax and the other two are Ralph Ditter photos from 1966 purportedly of a UFO (see 15 November 2010 blog where LIFE magazine wrote they were taken in 1967). Ditter confessed to a hoax... in 1971. Nevertheless, time and again we see, IMHO, a lack of intellectual honesty regarding UFOs.

The day after JFK's assassination Abraham Zapruder sold the print rights to LIFE and images from the Zapruder film were published in the 29 November 1963 issue. In this book they tout that "...conspiracy theorists everywhere..." could study the Zapruder film. In fact, they could only study prints, not the running film itself, which aired for the first time on network television in March 1975. The average reader not necessarily familar with UFOs or the JFK assassination could easily be misled by selective wording in these captions. Last, in the introductory page "The Premise Behind These Pictures" a reference is made to the renown photographer John Loengard. In the television series Dark Skies (see 31 October 2010 blog) Eric Close portrays the male lead named... John Loengard.

LIFE 100 Photographs Part I

LIFE 100 Photographs That Changed the World (2003?) is a visually stunning book. However, it seems a bit marred by a certain degree of political correctness and in the case of its "coverage" of the paranormal/supernatural, and UFOs in particular, there is (IMHO) a strong dose of the "giggle factor"/"laughter curtain." They are included in a section designated "Trick Photophotoghy." The sole UFO photo printed is not one of the classics. The 1950 McMinnville Oregon USA photos were reprinted in LIFE but in this book one taken by Ralph Ditter in 1967 was selected. The Ditter photo caption begins, "It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a . . . flying saucer?!?" I suppose I'll go a step further and say that in the case of the Abraham Zapruder film of JFK's assassination the book is (IMHO) essentially disingenuous. Today I wish my (only) sister a very Happy Birthday (and many more)! We really don't talk or discuss UFOs. But many years ago she remarked that since cameras were more numerous (this before cell phone cameras) we could expect more photographs of UFOs. I follow her logic. I was checking out some recent MUFON UFO Journals and wanted to cite the September 2010 issue, which marked the debut of Ted Phillips' column "Outside the Box." He wrote, "Today I have files of 4,701 trace landing events in 93 countries." Although these "inside the box" cases are extremely impressive Phillips emphasized the importance of those "outside the box." Came across a very interesting article in a most unexpected place: The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles. On page ten of the October 2010 issue is Ken's Korner News and Views from the World of Antiquing and Collecting, specifically the article Man's house hit by six meteorites. Mr. Lajic, whose house has been hit six times since 2007, has a theory: "I am obviously being targeted by extraterrestrials. I don't know what I have done to annoy them, but no other explanation makes sense. The chance of being hit by a meteorite is so small. Being hit six times has to be deliberate." I agree with the article that space collectibles are enormously popular. But I disagree with Mr. Lajic. As Sigmund Freud once remarked, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" (and, I might add, not a mother ship).

I've had some challenges recently and these words have proven to be an aid and comfort. Within 24 hours or so after reading those words I learned of two tragedies, both resulting in the loss of life. Came across the following book: Aliens Can We Make Contact with Extraterrestrial Intelligence? by Andrew J H Clark and David H Clark (Fromm International, 1999). Chapter six references UFOs, the "giggle factor" and the fact that, "Although the study of UFOs is now rejected by nearly all scientists, it was not always so." The Condon Report gave scientists justification not to investigate, research or take UFOs seriously. The authors discuss the 15 August 1977 Wow signal. Not a lot since then. Correction: nothing since then. (SETI) scientists who do not like what ufology offers (photographs, movies, radar observations, physical trace evidence, eyewitness reports, governments not releasing all UFO information, etc.) prefer what SETI offers, which is absolutely nothing. Stay with ufology, scientific ufology which demands ethics, intellectual honesty and rigorous study of the evidence, all the evidence.

This morning I heard a news segment on a major AM radio station regarding a UFO (or UFOs) sighting over New York City. Explanations other than UFOs were: balloons, flying cars, reports by pot smoking observers. Stanton Friedman has opined four reasons why the big shots of science and media have not jumped on the UFO bandwagon: ignorance, the laughter curtain, ego, it's impossible. Today's radio segment clearly falls under reason two, the laughter curtain. No real surprise. The real surprise will come to those ignorant souls when disclosure reveals the undeniable fact that some UFOs are alien craft.

Remembering Dad...

My father passed away 29 years ago today. I vividly recall my Mom calling me at work and telling me. My Dad and I really didn't talk about aliens, flying saucers or UFOs. He was not religious nor especially spiritual. I recall him talking about cultures from antiquity which worshipped the Sun. This he understood and respected because the Sun enabled life on Earth; without it, no life. Some of his interests became my interests and for this I'm thankful. He and I watched The Outer Limits, Chiller Theater, Supernatural Theatre. Through them I developed my appreciation for the imaginary, the incredible, the possible. I bought Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. Wonderful stuff then and now. In time I bought my first flying saucer magazine and books. Even then I knew that those TV shows and movies were made up, fiction, not real. Flying saucers/UFOs were mysterious but not made up or fictitious. They were real. I knew the difference. I still love those TV programs and movies. Always did, always will. Now I am here in the present, writing blogs on my UFO web site, trying to contribute in my fashion as best I can. I think Dad would be proud...

An uninformed opinion

Yesterday I was listening to a radio show in which the host flat out said that taking telephone calls regarding UFOs was to invite calls from lunatics which would clog up the lines (or words to that effect). Several years ago I heard another host say essentially the same thing. Both individuals are educated, intelligent, successful. However, when it comes to UFOs informed they are not. Scientific ufology is not part of their vocabulary. To the best of my knowledge they have not studied, researched or investigated UFOs of which J. Allen Hynek said, "...may be far more complex than we imagine."

Like Donald Keyhoe and Stanton Friedman I have never seen a flying saucer/UFO. Several years ago in Nassau County on Long Island NY I saw something travelling east to west, paralleling the Long Island Railroad. It was late afternoon and somewhat overcast. Something suddenly caught my attention. Its outline was somewhat indistinct but seemed essentially circular and very large. It was completely silent, incredibly fast and moved in an arc. As it moved away it it became smaller and smaller before disappearing from view. This took all of maybe five seconds. I described this event to an astonomer who said that it may have been a bolide. When I mentioned this event to a close relative I got the "you've got to be kidding" look. I never said it was metallic, a flying saucer or UFO. Is it any wonder that people are loathe to report anomalous sightings or events?

Just watched on YouTube a Mike Wallace interview of Donald Keyhoe on 8 March 1958. Absolutely engrossing. At one point Keyhoe refers to Project Blue Book Special Report No. 14 (a comprehensive study of USAF UFO cases by Battelle Memorial Institute). This Report is often cited by Stanton Friedman in his lectures and writings. Near the end of the interview Wallace asked Keyhoe if he ever saw a flying saucer and Keyhoe said no. Friedman also has never seen a flying saucer/UFO. In his closing remarks Wallace takes a cheap shot at Keyhoe thereby demonstrating his (i.e. Wallace's) bias, ignorance and unprofessionalism. Keyhoe was a pioneer and one day will be fully vindicated when public disclosure comes.

Today Voyager 2 (which is still operational) celebrates two milestones: on this date in 1981 it made its closest approach to Saturn; on this date in 1989 it made its closest approach to Neptune. Its mission is now regarded as the "Planetary Grand Tour." The Jet Propulsion Laboratory near Pasadena CA is responsible for developing and building Voyager 2. On a prior vacation I was fortunate to have visited the JPL and was especially impressed by the clean room where new space probes are built.

Yesterday I went to a local dog match show sponsored by the kennel club of which I am a member. As the day went on I talked with other members about my trip to New Mexico. I asked one woman what came to mind when I mentioned Roswell and she said that it was an eerie place. I did not ask for clarification or additional details. Our last activity on our last full day in New Mexico was a visit to The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque. Yesterday at a local flea market one vendor offered color photographs taken by someone on his/her vacation. Some were of the Grand Canyon, some of Las Vegas and some of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York. These made by far the biggest impression on me. I bought the entire lot. All these years later we still ask, "How could this have happened?" Since 1947 and surely earlier we've had evidence of an alien presence on Earth. If one day our worst fears are realized we may say that we didn't pay attention, that "It didn't have to come to this." Time will tell.

Stanton T Friedman has called "tribal warfare" one of humanity's major activities. Last night I attended a non-partisan political meet and greet/get to know the candidates at a local synagogue. Poignant references to The Holocaust abounded. If we stand back and objectively see ourselves the way aliens do, their activities and behaviors are quite logical and understandable. When Rodney King asked, "Can't we all get along?" I posit that aliens would answer, "No, you can't. We've seen enough and are doing something about it." And there's nothing we can do to stop them.

Today is the birthday of Stanton T Friedman, born 29 July 1934. He is without doubt a titan of ufology and I have been fortunate to have attended three of his lectures: at an Intruders Foundation (IF) seminar; at the 92nd Street Y and at the Edgar Cayce ARE Center in NYC. All were well worth attending. Each had a Q and A with a book signing afterwards. If you haven't heard him talk about UFOs I emphatically recommend checking him out on YouTube. His books are must reading as well. Today is also the anniversary of the 1968 Congressional UFO Hearings before the US House Committee on Science and Astronautics. Participants included (among others) J Allen Hynek, Carl Sagen, James MacDonald and prepared statements by Donald Menzel and Stanton T Friedman. In the 92nd Street Y lecture Mr. Friedman singled out Dr. MacDonald's paper as the best submission (by far). Yes, there was a time when the government paid public attention to UFOs. Not anymore. Fortunately stalwarts like Mr. Friedman are still lecturing and writing books. Thank you for everything you've done and will do. And have a great birthday!

Distractions

My favorite seasons (in order) are spring, summer, fall, winter. Each has its charms. And distractions. Those of us fortunate enough to have at least some minimal level of affluence seek diversions from the everyday business of living and merely surviving. We have hobbies, interests and pursuits which contribute meaning and purpose to our lives. IMHO, too many diversions serve as mere distractions and make us completely oblivious (or nearly so) to bigger issues which in their sublety are unknown to most of us. UFOs are of no interest to the masses. Such persons focus on technology and far too often are obsessed by their toys: Blackberries, cell phones, iPads, iPhones, iPods, MP3 players, laptops, notebooks, personal display assistants (PDAs), flat screen TVs; their bodies: piercings and tattoos to the extreme; and their risky activities: consumption of known carcinogens, DUI and DWI. What about balance and moderation? What about perspective and proportion? Why so much apathy and indifference? Whatever happened to self-restraint? Hollywood, the education establishment and mainstream/midstream/lamestream/legacy media have contributed in large measure to the dumming down of Americans and pandering to the lowest common denominator. There was a time when this wasn't the case. Today is the birthday of Carl Gustav Jung, born 26 July 1875. In the late 1950s he wrote Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen in the Skies. His main focus was on construing/interpreting UFOs in terms of the mythic, the psychic, the archetype. He passed away 6 June 1961, prior to Betty and Barney Hill's September 1961 abduction.

New Mexico trip photos

One week ago today I returned from New Mexico. I took many photographs some of which I hope to post to this site. I've printed out any number and shared them with some of my co-workers. One told me that prior to serving in the US Air Force at Holloman AFB in New Mexico he was a card carrying member of Donald Keyhoe's NICAP. He's often quite glib with a strong sense of humor tinged with a lot of sarcasm. Therefore, it's proven somewhat difficult for me to draw him out and have him share his thoughts regarding flying saucers/UFOs. On a number of occasions he's supplied his own "laughter curtain" but other times he's more serious and said that while in the USAF he saw UFOs. Just today he said that in time he would share more me. We shall see.

Washington DC UFOs; Men walk on Moon

Today we commemorate the 19-20 July 1952 UFO sightings over Washington DC. This was followed by additional sightings 26-27 July 1952. These occurrences were dramatically portrayed in the 1956 film "Unidentified Flying Objects: The True Story of Flying Saucers" starring Tom Towers as Al Chop and Robert Phillips as Captain Edward Ruppelt. I haven't seen this movie in awhile but highly recommend it. In addition, we celebrate the anniversary of Neil Armstrong's and Buzz Aldrin's Moon walk 20 July 1969. Several years ago I had the chance to briefly meet and talk with Mr. Aldrin at a book signing at The Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island. I was going to ask about the astronauts' quarantine after returning to Earth but decided not to. Instead I decided to keep things light and told him that I liked his (Buzz Lightyear?) tie.

New Mexico trip recap

Without doubt this was one of the most rewarding trips I've ever taken. New Mexico was, and is, magnificent. After Roswell: Sunday-Monday 11-12 July 2010 Las Cruces; Tuesday-Thursday 13-15 July 2010 Albuquerque. During our stay at Las Cruces (home of the New Mexico State University Aggies) we encountered some drizzle. Afterwards we drove to El Paso (home of the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) Miners) and were caught in a rain storm of almost Biblical proportions. We had to pull off the road! We headed back to Las Cruces. The next day was beautiful, lots of sunshine and almost no traces of the rain the night before. We visited Columbus NM (which was invaded by Pancho Villa and his cohorts 9 March 1916. Also paid a quick visit to the USA-Mexico border which is about three miles from Columbus. Then to El Paso where we checked out the University (whch I always like to do) and walked into the famous Sun Bowl. Very impressive! One the way back to Albuquerque (home of the University of New Mexico Lobos) we stopped off at Truth or Consequences (which has a very inspiring Vietnam memorial park) and Socorro (where Lonnie Zamora's famous sighting occurred 24 April 1964). Our last day was spent entirely in Albuquerque and we went to a garden, aquarium and a nuclear museum. I finally found some time to hang out at the hotel's pool but by late afernoon and early evening it was surprisingly overcast and breezy. Packing up is always somewhat of a challenge, with many souvenirs and even more memories. My hope is to eventually post some photos. New Mexico's history is remarkable: the Native Americans' presence for hundreds and thousands of years; Pancho Villa's raid; Los Alamos/Trinity site and the development of the atomic bomb; Roswell, Socorro, Aztec, the Plains of San Augustin, Hollomon AFB, etc. and UFOs. I was not able to visit each site, city or location. Nevertheless 8-15 July 2010 will always be part of me. Thank you, New Mexico!

Once again I'm very happy to report that I have access to a computer at the hotel, this time in Roswell. I'll continue to input some info regarding my New Mexico trip. Today I finally made it to the promised land of ufology! (In some ways this reminded me of my first, and so far only, visit to Dallas TX, Dealey Plaza and the old Texas School Book Depository.) The highlight was my visit to the International UFO Museum and Research Center. The Research Center was amazing; its resources extremely impressive. One unexpected but pleasant surprise was their sale of ex IUFOMRC library books. I purchased several including one about the Museum which indicated that it originally had been donated to the Museum by Walter Haut of July 1947 Roswell fame. I'm only spending one day here but wish it was more. Can't wait to share my experiences with my friends and associates back home.

30 June 1908. Siberia Russia. Asteroid impact? Comet explosion? Meteor/meteorite breakup? UFO (there, I said it)? Most likely the blast was not caused by a UFO. There are additional hypotheses. Estimated as powerful as 1,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs, this event is considered the largest "impact" over land in recent history. Yet very few individuals know this. Only if an event like this happens again will people care (as Arthur Miller wrote in Death of a Salesman: "...so attention must be paid.").

Today's stream of consciousness took me back to my senior year in college and a course I didn't take: Borders of Science, which focused on the paranormal and the occult (perhaps even the supernatural). Very cool! My schedule was already quite full at 18 credits and 21 seemed unmanageable. I'm sure I took one or two electives that semester/term which were practical (e.g. business writing; I confess that it was an excellent class with a fine instructor). Obviously I like to write and I'm sure any writing course has been helpful. At this time I'm reminded of Albert Einstein's quote, "Imagination is more important than knowledge..."

I am in the process of reading Mr. Spaceman, a novel by Robert Olen Butler (published in 2000 by Grove Press). By and large I am predisposed to reading non-fiction but when I read fiction I lean towards science fiction. Another book I wish to bring to your attention is The Soviet UFO Files: Paranormal Encounters Behind the Iron Curtain, by Paul Stonehill (consultant: Philip Mantle, published in 1998 by CLB International). Of particular interest is the Tunguska explosion of June 1908.

Kenneth Arnold and UFO Day

24 June 1947. Kenneth Arnold's famous sighting near Mount Rainier in Washington state USA. Essentially this marked the birth of the modern UFO age. In the May 2010 Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Journal we are encouraged to celebrate 24 June (and/or 2 July) as UFO Day. I understand the article's optimism but in my opinion it is much too early to celebrate anything. The operative word is "celebrate." I recall a number of years ago on the anniversary of Babe Ruth's passing a baseball announcer said words to the effect, "Today we celebrate the death of Babe Ruth." Ouch! Of course he meant to say that we celebrate his life and commemorate his death. At this point let us acknowledge/commemorate/recognize the reality of UFOs, not celebrate them. We must be cautious, conservative, skeptical and prudent regarding this phenomenon. Their agendas, intentions, motives, goals and objectives are still unknown to us. In time we will surely know whether UFOs are a blessing or curse for humanity. Until then let's not be naive; commemorate, don't celebrate.

Happy Fathers Day! We also commemorate the birthdate of UFO research pioneer Donald Keyhoe, born 20 June 1897. Earlier today I drove to a local flea market which I've gone to occasionally over the years. On route is a dinette furniture business concern where I once purchased a small table and chair set. Whenever I pass by I think of that day when the proprietor and I began talking casually after the sale. Where did they buy their merchandise, etc. He volunteered that he travelled a lot and was born in the Middle East. Our conversation focused on small talk and was uneventful until he suggested that the pyramids were not built by human beings. I knew where this was leading but professed ignorance and asked who built them. Answer: aliens. Oh really? I see. About this time he showed me a handwritten manuscript apparently written in Arabic. I don't recall its subject matter. We continued chatting about aliens/UFOs till he eventually said that he was uncomfortable with the conversation. I asked why. His answer: he didn't want to continue talking about these issues with someone he didn't know. Perhaps I was someone from the government. I didn't press him but his unease was quite apparent. Who would think that a proprietor of a dinette store would talk of such things? Very strange to say the least.

One woman spoke of a friend's sighting of a very loud, low-flying craft which seemd to have fins, not wings, large landing wheels but no insignia. Another woman's experience seemed to suggest possible poltergeist activity. One man spoke of meditation and his colleagues' attempt to contact ETs. Another man talked of his trip to China. In the United States Flag Day is celebrated on 14 June. In the television show The X-Files there was a "shadow government" known as "The Syndicate." In one episode its members symbolically surrender to the aliens by presenting a folded American flag at El Rico AFB. Extremely powerful drama. Today would have been my mother's 89th birthday. She was a woman of uncommon character, strength and principle, especially after my father's passing. We were close and talked of many things including, on very rare occasions, UFOs. She knew of my long-term interest in the subject and yet I only recall two general topics of conversation regarding the phenomenon. The first was life beyond Earth and a supreme being/deity. These she believed to be true. Regarding aliens/occupants (or "operators") she questioned why, according to reports, they always looked the same. I explained that there were many variations and in fact "they" did not all appear similar or identical. That was essentially the extent of her interest regarding UFOs. I guess she would be included in the large group of the incurious. I was always comfortable with her indifference. That said I trust that she is in a better place and that her immortal soul is safe and well. I miss you and love you... always...

Vietnam Moving Wall

Last night I visited the Vietnam Moving Wall (a half-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial Monument in Washington DC) in a nearby town. I first saw the Wall in 1998. As of 1 January 2010 there are 58,262 names on the Wall. Its power to inspire, move, touch and anger you is assured. This morning as I was filling out a form at a bank I told the teller of this anniversary. She seemed a tad surprised and then acknowledged that it was. This past Wednesday, at a local club gathering, I began chatting with man approximately forty years of age. This was the last meeting till September and I mentioned that this July I was going on vacation to New Mexico. I talked about cities to visit including Roswell (big surprise!). I asked if he knew anything about why that city was notable. He said that he heard about Roswell but didn't know or couldn't recall anything specific. I expressed my opinion that an alien craft crashed nearby in July 1947. He was not nonplussed. That did not surprise me. I've spoken with him several times; he's quite quiet, reserved but as far as I can tell a real standup guy. Nevertheless, it seems that the average person is fairly ignorant when it comes to history in general and UFOs specifically.

The first is: UFOs: A History of Alien Activity from Sightings to Abductions to Global Threat by Rupert Matthews (published 2009 by Chartwell Books, Inc.). The subtitle is particularly sensational/alarming. This is another survey book which covers the broad spectrum of the UFO phenomenon. I'm partial to these books because the thumbnail information provides one-stop shopping (if you will) of which I never tire. One case, previously unknown to me, summarized a 1950s UFO encounter on Long Island, New York. The second book is: 2012: The War for Souls by Whitley Strieber (published 2007 by Tor Books). This is a fictional work which I'm currently reading.

One co-worker, approximately forty-five, is quite the philospher and I would like to share some of his quotes which I believe lend perspective and proportion to the UFO conundrum specifically and life generally: "We all grow old, but only a few actually continue to grow"; "Truth beckons no one"; "The strongest and most lasting lies are the ones we tell ourselves." Finished listening to/watching Dr. Jacobs on YouTube (see 13 May 2010 blog post). He discussed essentially the same issues as his IF lecture (see 25 April 2010 blog post). Some of his opinions at the IF seminar were quite chilling (please understand that the following are not necessarily exact quotes but do accurately convey his thoughts): at some point the aliens decided to begin their abduction program ("...let's do it..."); they are not afraid of our military (i.e. they are not intimidated by "... our bangs, loud noises and projectiles..."). Dr. Jacobs believes that this program has a beginning, middle and end. Its timeframe: gradual, accelerated, sudden. Regarding the hybrids: their loyalty to "those above" is unshakable. He hopes he's wrong. Of course he could be right about everything; he can be wrong about everything. In 1862 a small, poorly armed Mexican militia defeated a larger and better-equipped French army. However, the next year the French occupied Mexico. Which brings us to our "relationship" with UFO aliens/entities/occupants. Are they friend or foe, benevolent or diabolically evil, or essentially neutral? What do they want? What do they need? The Eerie Silence

Today a co-worker gave me a book review (written by Dwight Garner) of Paul Davies' The Eerie Silence: Renewing Our Search for Alien Intelligence. The book's focus is on SETI. Based on the review Mr. Davies advises us to "Forget little green men...flying saucers with portholes, crop circles..." I suspect that Mr. Davies is likely quite unfamiliar with the solid data and information available to the public regarding UFOs since 1947. He has cast his lot with the SETI community. Good for him. I encourage their work and perhaps one day it will bear fruit. In my opinion his apparent dismissal of relevant UFO evidence serves no constructive purposes except his own. The extraterrestrial hypothesis is one of several hypotheses regarding UFOs. Wouldn't it be interesting if SETI supporters continue to search for ET signals only to discover one day that UFO aliens are not ETs but interdimensionals and not from our universe at all.

Yesterday marked 100 years since J. Allen Hynek's birth (1 May 1910 - 27 April 1986). His contribution to Ufology is beyond calculation. Dr. Hynek's seminal book The UFO Experience concludes with one of my favorite quotes, "When the long awaited solution to the UFO problem comes, I believe that it will prove to be not merely the next small step in the march of science but a mighty and totally unexpected quantum leap."

Today is Arbor Day which (in the USA) is celebrated on the last Friday in April. The first Arbor Day was April 1872. Nothing UFO related but it's nice to take a moment and appreciate the simple things in life.

Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking

Earlier this week an aquaintance mentioned Stephen Hawking's remarks re: human contact with aliens and potential adverse consequences for humanity. Today a colleague at work also mentioned Stephen Hawking's remarks but in a more general sense. Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking is a new series on The Discovery Channel. Serious, scientific approaches to Ufology are crucial. Far too many people are indifferent/ignorant/uninformed regarding this phenomenon. Is there is a lot of garbage out there? Most definitely. But there is also a lot of good data/solid information which has been largely ignored or marginalized by the legacy media and mainstream scientific community. This includes numerous scientific studies, physical trace cases, radar observations, countless reports from credible people reporting incredible things and governments not releasing documents regarding UFOs.

Co-worker's UFO remark

Today a co-worker, a retired teacher approximately 60 years of age, unexpectedly mentioned how she was up one night and began listening to the George Noory Coast to Coast AM radio program. The topic: aliens/hybrids are now on Earth and among us. She volunteered that she stopped listening because this information frightened her. I'm sure many other people feel the same way.

Last night's IF seminar

Went to last night's IF seminar and was joined by four other members of our local MUFON group. The event was very well attended. Today I shall focus on Dr. David M. Jacobs' presentation. To the best of my recollection he expressed his belief that alien/human hyrid beings are now among us with the goal of integration with the human species, with humans as the inferior species. Dr. Jacobs' tone was often quite pessimistic. Apparently this process will be completed as soon as they achieve "critical mass", which should occur within thirty years. During the Q and A session one attendee expressed the need for a "call to action." Unfortunately (tragically may be a better word), far too many of us are utterly indifferent when it comes to this incredibly important subject (in a recent MUFON journal article Budd Hopkins refers to these individuals as the "incurious"). After Q and A I had a chance to talk with Dr. Jacobs, Mr. Hopkins and Ms. Leslie Kean, an investigative journalist who has researched the Kecksburg UFO. I expressed my opinion to her that considering the gravity of the situation I am amazed that IF seminars don't fill large auditoriums. Each person makes choices and needs to take responsibility for those choices. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's quite another to have an informed opinion. For those of you who take time to learn and seek greater knowledge of this subject I salute you. Continue your search, your quest for understanding. I hope my web site and blog contribute in some way.

I recently purchased UFO: The Continuing Enigma which is part of the Reader's Digest Quest for the Unknown series (published in the early 1990s). I was somewhat surprised that Stanton Friedman's last name was misspelled "Freedman." Nevertheless this book is an excellent overview of this paranormal subject.

April's MUFON meeting

Last night's meeting was held at another public library because our usual location is being renovated. Our state section leader was unable to attend. His wife, who is also interested in UFOs, moderated the group. We discussed UFOs and other anomalous topics. Afterwards we headed to our usual diner. Prior to ordering our meals they provided us with complimentary pasta salad which was quite good. Fortunately our group leader was able to stop by before we left. It was good to see him since I missed the last few meetings.
